Babble Royale is a free-to-play, Scrabble-like battle royale. Players can unlock and use fancy skins using real money or by winning matches.
Babble Royale is a new free-to-play early access game that mixes battle royale with Scrabble, but, instead of forming words to earn points, players make words to kill other players and earn fancy tile skins by doing so. Players have choices as to the types of skins they can get for their tiles, including Camo, Polkadots, Fuzzy, Pizza Box, and others. As the game approaches a full release, there will probably be more skins added, including swankier options.
In 2022, wordsmiths already have plenty of game options, including the popular, free daily word puzzle Wordle. There are tons of other word games to choose from, like Wordscapes, Words with Friends, and even traditional crossword puzzles. Babble Royale can also appeal to those who are fond of battle royale games such as Fortnite or Apex Legends but who are looking for something a little different than gunning other players down.
Just like in Fortnite or PUBG, a round of Babble Royale begins with players dropping in from the sky into the battlefield below, and they are able to choose where they land. The play zone starts shrinking, and, if players are caught outside of it, they begin to suffer damage. They can knock out other players by connecting their word with another player’s active word which is highlighted. The winner is the last one still standing.
Getting Tile Skins in Babble Royale
There are exclusive skins in Babble Royale that players can get with gems, which, like in other free-to-play titles, cost real money. However, players can also get skins for free just by playing the game and earning in-game currency. Tile skins normally are purchased by the letter, but players can spend gems to unlock a skin for every letter of the alphabet. Alternatively, they can have a combination of different skins when they are creating words as a way of expressing their style.
When players complete a round of Babble Royale, they get a certain number of bronze coins depending on how they placed in the match. They can then spend the coins to get tile skins for their letters. While most letters are inexpensive, vowels cost more, and the letter S is the most expensive. Some of the skins can only be unlocked with the golden crown coins. Players can get them by killing other players, or in special rounds called Golden Royales.
Players can also get hats for their tiles. Most of the hats will cost real money, but a couple can be earned through performing well in the game. If cars can have hats in games like Rocket League or Roundabout, there’s no reason that letter tiles can't wear hats too.
Notably, the Metallic skin is the only Babble Royale skin that cannot be purchased, even with gems. The description for this skin is “Winners only.” It can’t be purchased as a set, and each letter costs 10 golden crown coins minimum, which means players need to knock out other players to get tiles from this set. A player with a bunch of Metallic letters should probably be kept at a distance because the skin is a sign they know what they're doing.
