Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will introduce several new Pokemon to fans of the franchise. Thanks to trailers, players already got their first look at what to expect from the Paldea region, so here’s every new Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet so far.

A new generation of Pokemon will make their way to the Nintendo Switch with the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Expectations are high for this innovative open-world experience, but despite gameplay improvements, all eyes will be on Scarlet and Violet’s new Pokemon prior to release.

The hype surrounding generation nine is beginning to build as the Pokemon Company have revealed a few of Scarlet and Violet’s new Pokemon through reveal trailers. As with most new entries, it’s also safe to expect some new Paldean variant Pokemon from previous generations.

So far, thirteen new Pokemon have been confirmed for Scarlet and Violet so let’s take a look at what to expect.

  • Scarlet & Violet starter Pokemon
  • New Scarlet & Violet Paldea region Pokemon
  • Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Legendary Pokemon

Scarlet & Violet starter Pokemon

The three starter Pokemon in Scarlet & Violet are Fuecoco, Quaxly, and Sprigatito. At the moment we don’t know what their evolutions look like, but you’ll be starting your Pokemon Scarlet & Violet adventure with one of the three starters below.

Fuecoco

Fuecoco Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Type: Fire
  • Ability: Blaze

Traditionally, Fire-type starter Pokemon are some of the most popular new introductions of a new title and Fuecoco has big shoes to fill. This crocodile-like Pokemon will look to emulate the popularity of the original Fire-type starter Charizard.

Quaxly

Quaxly Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Type: Water
  • Ability: Torrent

Quaxly is Scarlet and Violet’s Water-type starter and while it’s clearly adorable, it’s said to have a tidy and proper nature. Since Quaxly is a duckling Pokemon, it could possibly take on a Water/Flying dual-type as it evolves.

Sprigatito

Sprigatito Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Type: Grass
  • Ability: Overgrow

Sprigatito is constantly attempting to capture its trainer’s attention and its fur is said to be as fluffy as can be. It remains to be seen if Sprigatito will evolve into a ferocious feline or maintain its cute and cuddly demeanor.

New Scarlet & Violet Paldea region Pokemon

The Pokemon Company are slowly unveiling the new Pokemon set to debut in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. Lechonk and Grafaiai have already made a lasting impression on the Pokemon community. Meanwhile, Paldean Wooper is the first returning Pokemon to receive a Paldean region variant, with more expected to be revealed shortly.

Lechonk

Lechonk Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Type: Normal
  • Ability: Aroma Veil / Gluttony

Lechonk’s adorable attitude and look took the Pokemon world by storm when it was revealed in the second Scarlet and Violet trailer. Normal types don’t usually cause the most excitement among players, so it was nice to see Lechonk earn some time in the spotlight.

Smoliv

Smoliv Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Type: Grass / Normal
  • Ability: Early Bird

Smoliv is one of four dual-type Pokemon to be revealed for Scarlet & Violet so far. The olive Pokemon is the second ever to boast a Grass and Normal typing following the Deerling and Sawsbuck line in Pokemon Black and White.

Pawmi

Pawmi Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Type: Electric
  • Ability: Static / Natural Cure

Pawmi has some Pikachu-sized shoes to fill as an electric mouse Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet. Although they don’t boast the same recognizable color, Pawmi and Pikachu both store electricity in their cheek pouches.

Fidough

Fidough Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Type: Fairy
  • Ability: Own Tempo

On paper, a Fairy-type puppy Pokemon sounds like it would just about be the cutest new Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet. Luckily, Fidough doesn’t disappoint as it cranks up the cuteness to eleven. Players will have to wait and see if its evolutions maintain their initial charm.

Cetitan

Cetitan Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Type: Ice
  • Ability: Thick Fat / Slush Rush

Cetitan certainly boasts an interesting design as the Paldea region’s resident Ice-type. It seems Cetitan will be found in snowy areas as a winter whale Pokemon. Both Thick Fat and Slush Rush are fantastic abilities making any Cetitan you catch a powerful ally.

Paldean Wooper

Paldean Wooper Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
  • Type: Poison / Ground
  • Ability: Poison Point / Water Absorb

This new and improved version of Wooper is the very first Paldean variant to be revealed. Paldean Wooper swaps its Water / Ground typing for a Poison / Ground typing. Paldean Wooper eliminates its weakness to Grass-type moves, and thanks to the Water Absorb ability it could potentially negate its new weakness to Water-type moves.

Keep an eye out for any information concerning Paldean Quagsire prior to release, as it’s sure to be a menacing Pokemon.

Grafaiai

Grafaiai Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Type: Poison / Normal
Ability: Unburden / Poison Touch

Grafaiai is a mischievous Pokemon that uses its saliva to draw on trees. Although the patterns may look appealing, Grafaiai’s saliva is poisonous, which explains its Poison Touch ability. The Pokemon’s saliva changes color depending on what it eats.

The Unburden ability should be a powerful tool in competitive battles as Grafaiai’s speed will double when the Pokémon’s held item is used or lost.

Cyclizar

Cyclizar Pokemon Scarlet Violet
  • Type: Dragon / Normal
  • Ability: Shed Skin

While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, it seems Cyclizar could be the pre-evolution of Koraidon and Miraidon. Much like the Legendary Scarlet & Violet mascots, Cyclizar will be used for transportation around the Paldea region, which enforces theories that it will evolve into Koraidon or Miraidon.

Cyclizar is capable of using a new move called Shed Tail that uses HP to create a dummy, similar to Substitute. Cyclizar joins Drampa as the only Pokemon with Dragon / Normal typing, but it remains to be seen if it will change types if and when it evolves.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Legendary Pokemon

Koraidon and Miraidon are the first Scarlet & Violet Legendary Pokemon to be revealed. They’re expected to have a larger role in Scarlet & Violet than Legendary Pokemon of the past.

Koraidon & Miraidon

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Koraidon Miraidon

Little is known of Koraidon and Miraidon other than the fact that they are the game’s version-exclusive Legendary Pokemon, and that players will be able to ride them around the Paldea region.

Koraidon is the traditional figure attached to Scarlet, while Miraidon offers Violet players a modern look. Scarlet and Violet’s game mascots sure do look frightening and it’s no surprise that they’ll have the in-game stats to prove their rarity.

As more information concerning new Pokemon is revealed prior to Scarlet and Violet’s November 18 release date, we’ll continue to update this article. Perhaps the next reveal will include new evolutions for fan-favorite Pokemon, which always seem to get players excited.
