A FORTNITE-OBSESSED thug smashed in a 16-year-old boy's skull with a Walking Dead bat — before celebrating by "flossing".

John Callis-Woolsey, 18, left the teen with brain damage after bludgeoning him with a baseball bat covered with nails and "Lucille" written on it - just like one in zombie apocalypse TV show The Walking Dead.

As his victim lay in a pool of blood, Callis-Woolsey did a "floss" dance made popular by video game Fortnite.

The floss is widely known as a celebrating dance move — in which a person repeatedly swings their arms, with clenched fists, from the back of their body to the front — making Callis-Woolsey's horrific crime even sicker.

The victim's mum is now warning of the impact violent games and TV programmes can have on youngsters after Callis-Woolsey was jailed for eight years on Thursday.

Her son was left hospitalised for nine months and now requires full time care due to a lifelong brain injury which has left him being only able to walk with the aid of a frame.

She said: "The assault has changed our lives forever.

"This was a mindless and unprovoked act of extreme violence.

"I was shocked when I saw the hideous looking weapon that was used.

"I would like the producers and creators of such programmes to know the influence the content has on immature minds.

Derby Crown Court was told police were called to reports of an assault in Middleton-by-Wirksworth, Derbyshire, on November 13, 2018.

Callis-Woolsey, from Middleton-by-Wirksworth, was jailed for eight years after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent at a previous hearing.

Co-defendant Kyle Cullan, of Wirksworth, Derbyshire, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and was sentenced to 12 months.

Detective Constable Derek Ellis said after the case: "This was an act of extreme violence which was planned, orchestrated and carried out by a teenager for a somewhat trivial matter.

"His actions that night have dramatically altered the course of two young and bright promising lives, one of which was his own.

"The victim and his immediate family have had to come to terms with the consequences of that night.

"Their fight, spirit and support for each other has been nothing short of admirable."

It is believed the attack was inspired by The Walking Dead, in which character Negan uses a baseball bat he calls Lucille, which is wrapped in barbed wire, to kill zombies.
