While the timeline for the new season at first remained uncertain, Netflix has finally put rumors to rest with its latest season 3 update!
On Feb. 28, 2022, Netflix announced that production on Outer Banks season 3 had officially begun — nearly three months after the show was officially renewed on Dec. 7, 2021. That’s right, folks! Our favorite Pogues — and the Kooks we love to hate — have officially reunited on location to begin filming season 3.

Is Outer Banks season 3 coming in 2022?
At this time, Netflix has not confirmed the release date for Outer Banks season 3. That said, with production having officially begun, the odds of season 3 arriving before the end of 2022 just significantly improved!
Traditionally, it takes a few months for a series such as Outer Banks to film and the current plan seems to be forfilming on season 3 to unfold across the next few months before wrapping sometime in August. Should the show wrap in August as planned, we’d then be looking at a few months for post-production to be completed.
While the exact number of months needed for post-production remains unknown, there should be more than enough time for the creative team to finish the season in time for a 2022 release. Currently, November or December seems like the most likely release months for the series.
It’s also possible we could see season 3 released on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day 2023.
As we wait for Outer Banks‘ newest season to drop, we can always relive the action from the show’s first two seasons which are streaming now on Netflix.
